Dear Fellow members and Guests, Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Isis Meeting on Thursday, Jan.It wasa wonderful way to begin 2012, with nearly 30 people in attendance in the old courthouse. This was largely thanks to Svetlana who brought a large number of friends with her. Thank you Svetlana.Gail Buswell, working in the role of grammarian introduced the word of the day, which, on this occasion was Respect and she encouraged us to use it in all its forms
as usual we began the evening weather table topics session mastered, on this occasion by Nick Andrews.Table topics speakers were Becky Lee, Nicholas Stevens, Don O'Neill andGail Buswell. They answered such questions as: what is your favourite film?; what are your resolutionsfor 2012?; what is your earliest childhood memory; and who is your biggest inspiration?
as usual, after the interval, we heard prepared speeches.Gavin Hageman gave us an informative speech about sustainable fishing from the advanced communicators manual, which was entitled land or sea. Anand John Rose gave us his icebreaker speech from the competent communicator's manual about computer virusesand finally, Rowan Andrews gave us the speech 'to inspire' from the competent communicator's manual. This was an interesting speech about having a purpose in life.
our president Arjun Thandi presented the certificates at the end of the meeting. On this occasion, Nicholas Stevens won the best table topics for his account of his resolutions for 2012. Rowan Andrews won the best speaker award for his inspirational speech about having a purpose in life. As usual we made our way down to the Mitre public house for a few beverages and to reflect on our wonderful evening. Many of our guests joined us at the pub and it was really nice to get to know some of them. I really hope they come next time and some of them will become members. This meeting summary will be coming out after the Isis pantomime and so, I hope it went well and that none of the participants were traumatised by the experience and I'm sure we'll look forward to hearing about it at our next meeting on January 19th
Note Annika Larson is taking over the role of vice president public relations and from here on I will be her assistant in this role. Gavin Hageman, assistant vice president, public relations, Isis speakers.
