Toastmasters Meeting Summary - December 1st 2011

Introduction:

Fellow members and Guests, Thank you to everyone who participated in the last Isis Meeting on Thursday December 1 , it was immensely enjoyable. We continued to experiment and refine our new timing system whereby speakers who run over time will receive two verbal warnings from the Timekeeper 30 seconds apart and then at the discretion of the Toastmaster of the evening will be asked to step down from the lectern. Thank you to everybody for your cooperation with this. Last but not least I am also pleased to announce that Ramesh Narayan has joined Isis. Welcome Ramesh. We hope to see you back with us soon.thank you to Rowan Andrews for taking on the role of 'Toastmaster of the evening' for the first time.

Table topics:

Daniel introduced the word of the day which on this occasion was 'altruism' and he encouraged us to use it in its many forms.as always,We started with a captivating Table Topic session mastered by Colin Jack. Each Speaker was given the name of a certain animal and told us what they thought it would be like to live the life of that animal. Nick Andrews entertained us with life as a bat; Arjun told us about how life would be as a whale; Daniel was a sloth and Gavin Hageman was a house mouse each gave very entertaining answers to these questions.

Prepared speeches and evaluations:

The second half as usual started with the prepared speeches . We were fortunate to have a range of speakers,Gavin Hageman who is working from the Advanced communication,'speaking to inform' manual delivered a speech entitled, " making the most of visual aids", which doubled up as an educational speech for the benefit of all Isis members. Gavin   was followed by Ramesh Narayan doing his icebreaker speech from the competent communicator manual Thank you Ramesh for entertaining us with your Ice Breaker. finally Chris lima gave us speech six from the competent communicator manual entitled what's life all about? I think many of us learned for the first time about being in the pity pot or going to the pity party. thanks to all, especially those who stepped in at thelast-minute to give us a complete program.
